1.’Dapper’ shows that the man was fairly wealthy and has good manners. It shows that he was brought up in a rich, maybe posh family. It says that he had a good job with high pay, as a result of his attire.
2. ‘Pale’ is the opposite of ‘healthy’ or ‘red-faced’ and it shows that it describes that it might be another man or something happened to the man in the first extract. In they second extract, it shows that the man was in a very bad physical and mental state.
3a. When it says ‘the rosy man had grown pale…’ It shows that something significant that gravely affected him,most probably mentally, made him in a really bad physical state.
3b. ‘The rosy man had grown pale; his flesh had fallen away; he was visibly balder and older…” Shows something in his life happened which changed him.
