Through the use of non standard English, both the reader and character have a similar feeling of homesickness. This can be seen when the writer makes us sympathise for Moses. The writer uses language familiar to Trinidadians, broken English, and this brings out the homesickness feeling that Moses has, trying to fit into London. This can be particularly seen when Moses is in the station waiting, when he gets memories when he sees families greeting each other and “kissing goodbyes”.
